Vincennes Fire Department Looking At Buying Boats For Water Rescues

Last updated on Wednesday, August 26, 2015

(VINCENNES) - Vincennes Fire Department Battalion Chief Tony Jarrells says with so many bodies of water surrounding the city, it’s essential that the department have a boat available to conduct water rescues.

The department currently shares a boat with the Vincennes Township Fire Department that was purchased through a Department of Homeland Security grant 10 years ago.

This year alone, Jarrell says the fire department has conducted three water rescues.

Jarrells hopes to raise enough funds to purchase two boats, one of them would be an inflatable craft.

But to do that Jarrell needs the public's help raising $50,000 for the two boats.

Donations can be made by going to the Vincennes Fire Department's Facebook page or in person at Fire Department Headquarters at 928 Vigo Street in Vincennes.
