Man Rescued After Jumping Into Creek

Last updated on Tuesday, August 4, 2015

(BRIDGETON) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says an 18-year-old man has been rescued from the top of a low-head dam in west-central Indiana.

The agency said in a news release early Monday that the man from Mecca jumped from a road into a creek in Bridgeton. The current was too swift for him to get to shore, and he grabbed onto a log stuck at the top of the dam.

According to the agency, a conservation officer used a rope retrieval system to pull the man to safety. The agency says the man had no serious injuries, but could face a misdemeanor charge of criminal recklessness.

The Department of Natural Resources says low-head dams are dangerous, especially when waters are high.
