Last updated on Thursday, August 6, 2015

(LOGAN, UTAH) - A northeastern Indiana man has been released from the hospital after a glider he was piloting crashed in a remote part of northern Utah.

Cache County Sheriff's Office said 63-year-old David Abbott of Rome City, Indiana, suffered a back injury in the crash Sunday about 20 miles east of Logan Cache Airport. WANE-TV reports Logan Regional Hospital said Tuesday that Abbott had been discharged.

According to the Cache County Sheriff's Office, Abbott was flying the engineless glider Sunday when it hit a pocket of air and struck a tree, crashing into a mountain. He was transported by a medical helicopter to the hospital.

Rome City Town Council Vice President Ben Castle tells the TV station that Abbott is the council's president and has served on the body since 1989.
