(FORT WAYNE) - A federal agency says the private information of 3.9 million people may have been exposed when the networks of a Fort Wayne medical software company were hacked.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reported on Monday that's how many people were affected when the networks at Medical Informatics Engineering were hacked in May.
The company announced June 10 that the attack on its main network and its NoMoreClipboard network began May 7 and wasn't detected until May 26. It said the exposed information includes names, addresses, birthdates, Social Security numbers and health records.
Chief Operating Officer Eric Jones said at the time the number of affected patients had not been determined.
The company notified HHS of the number of patients affected on July 23.
