"Big Red" Takes Fair Title As World's Largest Male Hog

Last updated on Monday, August 10, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - “Big Red” took the title of “World’s Largest Male Hog” on the opening day of the Indiana State Fair.

Big Red, owned by Rick Whistler, weighed in at 1,134 pounds, more than 100 pounds larger than last year's winner, "Spotosaurus Rex." The Whistler family have owned Big Red for five years, but this was his first competition.

His training was intense.

"We feed him about 20-25 pounds a day," Whistler said.

Big Red will be featured in the Swine Barn through the duration of the fair.
