Last updated on Wednesday, July 22, 2015

(COLUMBUS) - A Columbus woman was arrested on drug charges after allegedly trying to steal a watch from Walmart.

According to Columbus Police Sgt. Matt Harris, officers were called to the store on Whitfield Drive at about 6:50 a.m. Sunday on a report of two people trying to shoplift from the store.

Officers stopped 24-year-old Lindsey P. Smith of Columbus who abandoned a shopping cart full of merchandise near the front of the store and headed toward the exit.

Officers allegedly found a watch in her purse that had not been purchased. She was also found to have been banned from the store last month after allegedly being caught shoplifting.

After Smith was arrested, jail officers searched her belongings and allegedly found a syringe and meth in her underwear.

She is facing charges of theft, trespassing and possession of meth.
