Pilot Suffers Leg Injuries After Crashing Plane Near Crawfordsville High School

Last updated on Monday, July 6, 2015

(CRAWFORDSVILLE) - The pilot of a crop-dusting plane has been airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after authorities say his aircraft clipped a power line and crashed into a corn field.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Todd Walsh says the pilot was the only one in the single-engine plane when it crashed around 6:30 p.m. Sunday near Southmont High School in Crawfordsville.

Walsh tells The (Lafayette) Journal and Courier that the pilot had leg injuries and was "alert and conscious" when he was removed from the plane.

According to Walsh, some residents in the area briefly lost power. He says the plane will stay in the field until the Federal Aviation Administration investigates the crash.
