Ohio River Highway Closed After Deteriorating Pavement

Last updated on Friday, July 24, 2015

(ELIZABETH) - State road crews have closed a portion of a southern Indiana highway that leads to a casino because of deteriorating pavement along the Ohio River roadway.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Will Wingfield says part of Highway 111 was closed Wednesday in Floyd County near the town of Elizabeth, restricting traffic to two 10-foot-wide lanes with a 35 mph speed limit.

Wingfield tells WDRB-TV that some sort of landslide is damaging the road and part of its guardrail isn't in the ground anymore. The road leads to the Horseshoe Southern Indiana casino, about 10 miles west of Louisville, Kentucky.

INDOT hopes to have a repair plan completed soon and begin repairing the highway within a few weeks.
