Driver Arrested In Motorcycle Crash That Killed Passenger

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Early Saturday at approximately 3:40 a.m., Indiana State Police troopers were called to I-465 eastbound at the 7 mile marker after a report single vehicle motorcycle crash.

According to police and witness statements, 37-year-old Joshua Rork, of Indianapolis was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson on the entrance ramp from Mann Road to I-465 eastbound with his passenger 33-year-old Tiffany Smith, of Indianapolis.

Rork accelerated onto I-465 and struck an orange barrel in the road construction area of I-465 at the 7mm. Rork lost control of the vehicle and both him and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.

Rork was transported to Eskenazi Hospital with head injuries and lacerations. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner's Office. Neither Rork nor Smith was wearing helmets.

Rork was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated; operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and criminal recklessness with a motor vehicle. He is currently being detained in Eskenazi Hospital.

I-465 EB at the area of the crash was closed or lanes were restricted for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared.
