175 Mining Jobs Cut At Southern Indiana Coal Mine

Last updated on Wednesday, July 29, 2015

(CARLISE) - 175 coal mining jobs will be eliminated in southern Indiana.

Officials at Hallador Energy say a consolidation is responsible for the cuts at its Sullivan County mining subsidiary Sunrise Coal.

Hallador acquired Vectren Fuels and its three Indiana coal mines in Oaktown and Petersburg late last year from Evansville-based Vectren. At the time, officials said they expected the $300 million dollar deal to result in 120 miners losing their jobs.
