Woman Who Posted Ad For Escort Services Arrested For Murder Of Indianapolis Man

Last updated on Thursday, June 11, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A woman who posted an ad for escort services was arrested in Florida in connection with an Indianapolis homicide investigation.

WLKY reports that on May 31, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 7600 block of Woodmore Trace on a report of a person down.

Upon arrival, officers located Charles Bennington, 37, unresponsive inside an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Bennington's upstairs neighbor went to his apartment to check on him, and he discovered that the door was unlocked. The man opened the door and discovered Bennington lying nude and unresponsive in the doorway. The neighbor also said he saw multiple condoms in the apartment.

Crime lab investigators found a cell phone under the victim when they moved his body.

Detectives discovered that the cell phone was registered to Ashley Daker, 24. They also found out that she was a registered user of a website that serves as an online marketplace with advertisements for adult escorts. Daker posted an ad for "adult services" on the website on May 30.

Further investigation revealed a conversation between Daker and Bennington discussing about meeting up for sex and discussing the price.

Apartment surveillance video shows that a vehicle registered to Daker showed up at the victim's apartment at 1:51 a.m.

The victim's next door neighbor reported hearing a struggle in Bennington's apartment at around 2:10 a.m. and then he heard what he thought was a single gunshot.

One June 1, the U.S. Marshall located a second number associated with Daker, and the current GPS location of that phone was in St. Petersburg, Florida.

On June 3, homicide investigators obtained a warrant for Daker for murder and carrying a handgun without a license in connection to the death investigation.

On June 4, Daker was taken into custody without incident in Treasure Island, Florida by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. She was transported to the Pinellas County Jail to await extradition to Indiana.
