Suspended ISU Fraternity Ordered Closed Amid Violations

Last updated on Wednesday, June 10, 2015

(TERRE HAUTE) - An Indiana State University fraternity that was suspended in March amid an investigation into violations of a 2013 probation agreement has been ordered closed until further notice.

ISU officials tell the Tribune-Star that the closure of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity chapter followed violations that included hosting unauthorized events, providing alcohol to minors and tampering with fire-suppression equipment.

ISU says it is talking with the fraternity's national office about using the chapter house for student housing.

Vice president for student affairs Willie L. Banks Jr. says the situation provides an opportunity for the campus Greek community "to take a moment to look at their values and how they live their values."
