Purdue Student Deemed Competent To Stand Trial

Last updated on Wednesday, June 17, 2015

(LAFAYETTE) - A Purdue University student accused of choking a fellow student in a random on-campus attack has been deemed competent to stand trial after months of mental health treatment.

The Lafayette Journal and Courier reports 22-year-old Boda Wu is accused of choking a female student with a phone cord and toppling her to the ground in August. He faces five felony charges and appeared in court last week.

Wu was found mentally unfit for trial in February and was held in a series of secure treatment facilities. Court records say he was taken back to Tippecanoe County Jail earlier this month.

Defense attorney Brian Dekker is continuing to pursue an insanity defense for Wu.
