Heavy Rain Taking Toll On Crops

Last updated on Thursday, June 25, 2015

(UNDATED) - Less than a week after heavy rains took a toll on fields across Indiana, farmers are now evaluating fields to determine needs for replanting or recovery.

According to Seth Little, DuPont Crop Protection agronomist in Indiana, recovery from heavy rains and flooded field is possible depending on the crop and growth stage, but other factors will pose significant risks later in the season.

"Flooding followed by cool, wet conditions can increase soil-borne disease for both corn and soybeans," says Little. "As I talk with growers in our area, we are discussing preventative disease control to combat the potential for preventable yield loss later this summer.

Little and other DuPont agronomists in Indiana are available to share localized insight into field conditions and agronomic recommendations.
