Fatigued Driver Rolls Semi

(GARY/LAKE CO.) - A fatigued semi driver who fell asleep rolled his semi tractor this morning on the ramp to Cline Avenue.

According to an Indiana State Police report, at approximately 4:15 a.m. onMonday, a 1998 Freightliner tractor bob-tail (no trailer) was on the exit ramp from I-80 to Cline northbound ramp when the driver fell asleep as he drove around the curve.

The tractor owned by Mirmeg Cartage Incorporated out of Chicago, Illinois, and driven by 49-year-old James E. Leslie, of Gary, left the roadway and rolled over into the ditch.

Leslie was cited for unsafe lane movement and not wearing a seat belt. Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Inspector Wanda Clay also cited Leslie for fatigued driving and fuel tax violation.

Leslie had minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

The tractor was towed from the scene by Waffco Towing.

The ramp was reopened at approximately 6:23 a.m.
