Coroner Rules Heart Attack Caused Death Of Delaware County

(MUNCIE) - A coroner has ruled that a heart attack caused the death of a central Indiana county sheriff last month.

Delaware County Sheriff Mike Scroggins died May 15 at the home of a friend in Elyria, Ohio. The 52-year-old Scroggins had undergone shoulder surgery a week earlier at a nearby hospital.

The Muncie Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1J4oyAH ) the Lorain County, Ohio, coroner's office determined this week that Scroggins died from sudden cardiac arrest and that he had high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels.

The Democrat was elected sheriff in 2010 after more than 20 years in law enforcement and won re-election last year.
