Woman Pleads Guilty To Unemployment Insurance Fraud

(VIGO CO.) - 64-year-old Linda D. Deakins of Terre Haute pled guilty in Vigo County Superior Court after officials report she purposefully defrauded the system by collecting unemployment insurance benefits while working full-time.

The investigation began when an Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) employee confirmed Deakins was working and receiving wages while claiming unemployment insurance benefits.

Deakins was sentenced to five years of probation, and 40 hours community service and also ordered to repay DWD $22,844.75 for the benefits she fraudulently collected.
