Two Arrested On Arson Charges In Connection With Inland Marina Fire

Last updated on Tuesday, May 19, 2015

(VANDERBURGH CO.) - Two people have been arrested in connection with February’s multimillion dollar fire at Inland Marina.

Five boats caught fire and four sank, causing an estimated $4.5 million in damages.

According to Evansville Fire Department Investigators and Indiana Conservation Officers, 56-year-old William Marver of Evansville and 48-year-old Brenda Harris of Hatfield are both charged with conspiracy to commit arson, conspiracy to commit arson for hire and arson with intent to defraud.

Investigators say Marver is the owner of the 66-foot boat where the fire started. Marver told investigators he hired Harris to clean the boat because he was getting ready to sell it.

Investigators say Harris was actually taking things off the boat before the fire began and that she called 911 from the boat.

According to investigators, Marver and Harris conspired to commit arson for insurance purposes.

We're told Marver was taken into custody after a traffic stop on Highway 41 and Harris was arrested at her home in Hatfield.

Both were taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail and are being held on $50,000 bond each.
