Troopers Rescues Newborn Deer Along Interstate Median

Last updated on Monday, May 11, 2015

(PUTNAMVILLE) - A newborn deer motorists spotted along Interstate 70 is now in a wildlife expert’s car following its rescue in west-central Indiana by an Indiana State trooper.

State Police say motorists reported seeing a "baby deer" Saturday morning along the I-70 median in Putnam County.

Trooper Mike Wood arrived and found the fawn with afterbirth material apparently attached to it and near the carcass of an adult deer believed to have been its mother.

Wood wrapped the fawn in a towel and brought it to a nearby wrecker service, where employees cleaned it up before it was delivered to a woman who's state-certified in animal rehabilitation.

Wood says it was "heartwarming for all of us to play such a vital role in the health and well-being of this animal."
