Student In Custody After Fire At Posey County School

Last updated on Wednesday, May 20, 2015

(MT. VERNON) - A Posey County student is in police custody after a small fire at a school Tuesday morning. It happened around 9 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Senior High School.

The Mt. Vernon Fire Chief tells us a soap dispenser in the boys bathroom, next to the cafeteria, was intentionally set on fire. He says police have taken a student into custody.

The superintendent says the student was not expecting it to get out of hand and confessed to the fire.

We're told the school was evacuated and the fire was put out in about 10 minutes. Classes have since resumed and no one was hurt.
