Last updated on Thursday, May 7, 2015

(COLUMBUS) - Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) officials met with contractor representatives, utility company personnel and the Columbus city engineer at INDOT Seymour District offices to discuss details of a $3,064,249 project that will repair and resurface pavement, as well as replace traffic signals along State Road 46 between Mapleton Street and the East Fork of White River.

Harry Maginity, INDOT Spokesman, adds that work will also include approaches at U.S. Highway 31 intersections with Beam Road and 25th Street.

Maginity says that Dave O'Mara, of North Vernon, is the prime contractor charged with completing this 2.15 mile pavement preservation project by September 20. He notes that subcontractor James H. Drew Company, of Indianapolis, plans to replace traffic signals beginning May 11 at the following locations:

Maginity says that INDOT is implementing a traffic signal modernization program throughout Indiana. He says the new signal heads being installed at Columbus feature black back plates and reflective yellow sheeting, making them much more visible.

The visibility of these signals is supposed to be much better under difficult light conditions, than the signals being replaced.

Maginity says that subcontractor Harmon Construction, of North Vernon, plans will soon begin the removal and replacement of curb ramps and adjacent sidewalk areas to meet current Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance mandates required by federal law.

He says that a total of 89 new curb ramps will be installed.
