Harriet Tubman The Next Face On $20 Bill

Last updated on Thursday, May 14, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - After two months in which more than 600,000 people participated in an online poll, America decided a woman will be the next face of the $20 bill

In a very close race, Harriet Tubman received the majority of votes. She received 118,328 of the votes, beating Eleanor Roosevelt. Rosa Parks and Wilma Mankiller came in third and fourth place.

Tubman was born a slave in the 19th century. She escaped and later rescued about 70 others from slavery.

In order for Tubman to actually make it on the bill, it would take the Secretary of Treasury to make the decision.
