Woman Killed After Walking In Front Of Dump Truck

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana State Police troopers are investigating a fatality crash that occurred Monday morning just after 10 a.m. on I-465 in the westbound lane, near the Marion/Hamilton County line.

According to a preliminary investigation and witnesses statements 24-year-old Emily Meyers, of Carmel, was standing on the right side emergency shoulder near a 2014 Subaru passenger car that is registered in her name.

A witness to the crash,told police the woman was walking west away from her vehicle then ran into the I-465 travel lanes and was struck by a dump truck.

The 2003 International dump truck is registered to V & S Transport INC. of Pendleton and was being operated by 56-year-old Phillip Bates of Fountaintown.

Meyers was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Coroners Office.

Investigating Officers were ISP Troopers Troy Sunier, Mike McCreary and Tom Bennett. Assisting at the scene were officers with the Carmel Police Department, Carmel Fire Department, Indiana Department of Transportation, Marion County Coroner's Office.
