Semi Rolls On Side After Driver Sneezes

Last updated on Wednesday, April 29, 2015

(BURNS HARBOR) - At approximately 9:15 a.m. Monday night on southbound State Road 249 at exit 19 on I-94 a demi driver sneezed causing him to lose control of his semi, rolling his rig on its side.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper Jeff Council reports that a yellow 1999 Peterbuilt Tractor driven by 48-year-old Edward W. McCallum, from Hobart, was pulling a flatbed trailer with a steel coil weighing 45,000 pounds.

As he was entering the ramp he started to sneeze which caused him to run off the ramp into the grassy knoll and rolled the rig on its side.

McCallum was not injured and Cresco Lines, Inc. called Waffco Wrecker to upright the semi and towed it away.

There was no fuel spill and no ramp or interstate closures.

Master Trooper Council was assisted by Sergeant Lee Wright.
