Last updated on Friday, April 10, 2015

(New York, NY) - The Pacers’ Chris Copeland released a statement apologizing for making a “bad choice” by being out until 4am Wednesday morning when he was stabbed.

In the statement Copeland said, "I want to thank all the fans, friends, teammates, coaches and the Pacers organization for their support and prayers during this time. I also want to apologize to everyone, particularly the NBA and the Pacers for my bad choice at being out at that time. I am doing as well as can be expected and I will work hard to make a full recovery."

The Pacers were in New York for Wednesday night's game against the Knicks.

Copeland remains in stable condition at a New York Hospital. Copeland had surgery on his abdomen and his elbow after the attack early Wednesday morning outside the 1-Oak Club on West 17th Street in New York's Chelsea area.

Copeland and Katrine Saltara, a woman who is now described as his former fiance, were leaving the club when an argument ensued involving another group of people. New York Police say Copeland, Saltara and another woman were stabbed or slashed in the attack.

Shevoy Bleary-Murdock was arrested and charged with the stabbing attack. Atlanta Hawks players Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha were also arrested and charged with interfering with police officers who were investigating the stabbing.

The Hawks were in New York to play the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday night.
