Pacers Chris Copeland Recovering Following Stabbing

Last updated on Thursday, April 9, 2015

(New York, NY) - The suspect believed to have stabbed the Pacers’ Chris Copeland is in custody according to authorities.

After getting into an argument with the Pacers forward, 22-year old Shezoy Bleary reportedly pulled a knife and stabbed Copeland in the elbow and abdomen before slashing Copeland's female companion on the arm and leg.

Copeland's driver disarmed Bleary and detained him until police arrived.

Copeland underwent successful surgery on his abdomen and elbow. Both Copeland and the women are in stable condition and Frank Vogel says there is no timetable for Copeland's return but that he and the team were thinking about Copeland. "Obviously it hurts to see a teammate hurt like this but we have a headstrong, mentally tough team so I think we can overcome this."
