Last updated on Wednesday, April 22, 2015

(LAFAYETTE) - Lafayette police say one person has died in a shooting that prompted at least 10 schools to go on temporary lockdowns.

Lafayette Police Lt. Brad Hayworth said the victim died at a hospital following the shooting Tuesday morning. The victim was later identified as 32-year-old Wesley C. Ehrie.

Capt. Kurt Wolf said the victim knew his assailant and that the shooting stemmed from a property dispute.

Police said one male was detained at the scene of the shooting on the city's near north side. They also were looking for a 37-year-old man who fled the scene.

Lafayette School Corp. Superintendent Les Huddle says at least six of the district's schools went on temporary lockdowns. Lockdowns also were reported at six parochial schools.
