Columbus North High School Basketball Team Honored Today By MaxPreps Tour Of Champions

(COLUMBUS) - Columbus North High School will be presented with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy today at 3:30 p.m.

The Army National Guard is the presenting partner of the ninth annual MaxPreps Basketball Tour of Champions, which recognizes some of the best teams throughout the country. Columbus North, which finished No. 18 in the final rankings, is one of 10 girls' teams to be honored. The team will receive its trophy during a signing ceremony in the gym of Columbus North High School.

Those who will be present will be Jeff Hester, Columbus North HS athletic director;Patrick McKee, head basketball coach; Todd Townsend, MaxPreps territorial manager and SSG Collin Blundell, Indiana Army National Guard

Columbus North (28-1), which closed the season with 25 consecutive
victories, shaded Homestead of Fort Wayne, 62-56, on March 7 to capture its first Indiana 4A state championship. The school first fielded a varsity team in the 1971-72 season. Columbus North is one of 10 girls' basketball teams being honored on the ninth annual MaxPreps Basketball Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. MaxPreps ranks more than 20,000 varsity high school girls' basketball teams.

The MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the National Guard recognizes the finest high school basketball teams in the country through various celebrations and formal ceremonies. The Tour was inaugurated in 2005 and honored 10 premier football programs. Presently, the Football Tour honors 50 of the top scholastic teams in America. In 2006, boys' basketball was added. Girls' basketball became a part of the award program the following year. Girls' volleyball joined the mix in 2010 and in 2011 girls' soccer joined the program. Boys' soccer was added in 2012. Representatives from the Army National Guard will present each team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in recognition of their outstanding achievements throughout the 2014-15 season.
