Work Starting On I-65 South Of Indianapolis

Last updated on Tuesday, March 10, 2015

(GREENWOOD) - State officials say work is about to start on a project for adding lanes to a 13-mile section of Interstate 65 in Indianapolis’ southern suburbs.

Gov. Mike Pence is scheduled to take part today in the project's groundbreaking ceremony in Greenwood.

The state highway department says a contractor plans to begin work March 16 on a $36 million project for rebuilding and widening I-65 between Southport Road in Indianapolis and the Main Street interchange in Greenwood.

The agency says a contract for the work between Greenwood and Franklin should be awarded soon.

State officials also are planning expansion work for I-65 in Clark County near Louisville, Kentucky, and I-69 northeast of Indianapolis. Those projects are being paid for with $400 million set aside by the Legislature in 2013.
