(SPEEDWAY) - Fearing for her life, police say a Speedway woman shot and killed her ex-boyfriend around 4:00 Wednesday morning at the Lexington Green Apartments in the 5800 block of West 25th St.
Police say the man tried kicking in the apartment door, prompting the woman to call 911 while she retrieved her gun. She then shot him, investigators said at the scene.
The couple has a history of domestic violence and police say they've responded to the apartment several times. Authorities do not believe there was a restraining or protective order against the couple.
The woman was in the apartment with two children under the age of 10.
Police do not believe the two children belong to the man fatally shot.
Detectives initially do not expect any charges against the woman.
Police say it's an unfortunate reminder of the growing issue of domestic violence.
