Sex Offender Charged With Touching Boy In Walmart Bathroom

Last updated on Friday, March 13, 2015

(GREENFIELD) - A man, already on the Indiana sex offender registry, is accused of inappropriately touching a 7-year-old boy in a Walmart bathroom.

It happened on February 18, when police were called to the Walmart in Greenfield. Police say the boy went into the bathroom alone while his mother stood outside.

The boy came out and told his mother a man reached under the stall and touched him in his private area.

Store surveillance shows the man leaving the store immediately after.

"The suspect was already inside, prior to the little boy going in and had been in there for a considerable amount of time," explained Detective Lt. Randy Ratliff with Greenfield Police Department.

The suspect, David Paterson, is on the Indiana sex offender registry after he was convicted in 2009 of child molesting. He's from Indianapolis, but both crimes happened in Hancock County.

He is charged with child molestation.

According to the Indiana Sex Offender website, more than 12 registered sex offenders live within five miles from the Walmart shopping plaza.

Police say with temperatures getting warmer, more kids will likely be out at the parks. Protecting your children means always keeping a close eye on them. Also, keep a close eye on who's watching your children.
