Last updated on Tuesday, March 3, 2015

(WARRICK CO.) - Authorities say one horse is dead and another is recovering after the pair fell through the ice of a pond near Newburgh.

WFIE reports, it happened in the 6800 block of Lincoln Ave. around 6:45 a.m. Monday.

We're told one horse had drown by the time crews arrived and the other was struggling to stay above water.

Rescuers were able to save the horse by breaking up the ice and leading it back to the shore.

The horse was hypothermic, but was able to walk away.
