Juvenile Arrested After Fight Breaks Out At Middle School Basketball Game

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A fight broke out at Andrew J. Brown Academy Tuesday night after a middle school boys basketball game. Police say the fight involved 50-60 players and adults in the stands.

FOX59 reports that the game was between Andrew J. Brown Academy and Lighthouse Academy. The fight started at around 7:45 p.m. as the two teams were supposed to shake hands at the end of the game. A player from Lighthouse Academy punched an Andrew Brown Academy player. The incident led to a large fight involving players and adults. Police said the children involved in the fight were between the ages of 13 and 15

The juvenile who threw the initial punch was arrested for battery. Another teen suffered injuries to his face and had to be checked out my medics on the scene.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) says the school acted appropriately during the fight and is cooperating with the police investigation.

There were initial reports that a weapon was retrieved at the scene. But, IMPD officers did not find any weapons and could substantiate that claim.

Last week, the Marion County eighth grade girls championship basketball game was terminated after a fight broke out in the bleachers with just four minutes remaining in the game. That incident occurred at Westlane Middle School.
