Indiana Improves Fiscal Transparency Score

Last updated on Wednesday, March 25, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - State Auditor Suzanne Crouch is pleased to announce that the recently released 2015 ‘Following the Money’ report from the U.S. Public Interest Research Group reveals Indiana’s score improved three points from last year, keeping the Indiana Transparency Portal at the top of the national ranking.

Following the Money ranks all 50 states' online transparency portals on a variety of criteria including checkbook-detail expenditures, user-friendliness, comprehensiveness and accessibility.

"Transparency is so important because it holds government accountable to the public, demanding better performance for the people it serves," said Auditor Crouch. "In Indiana, we strive to constantly increase the availability of honest, accurate and up-to-date information about our State's finances."

Indiana's online transparency portal gives the public access to information about the State's budget, revenue, expenditures, contracts, fixed assets and employees along with links to the financial data of related agencies and local governments.

"Improving our score from a 94 to a 97 was quite a feat," Auditor Crouch said. "I am proud that Indiana continues to be a Leading 'A' State and am excited to see so many other states stepping up and sharing their information. My goal is to keep improving the Portal by increasing the scope of information available on the website, improving its user friendliness and ensuring that all entities that receive State dollars include their information on the site "
