Daleville Elementary Student Diagnosed With Viral Meningitis

Last updated on Saturday, March 21, 2015

(DALEVILLE) - Daleville School officials are warning parents to be on the look out after a student was diagnosed with viral meningitis on Wednesday.

Originally, officials thought the second grader had tripped on the bus and hit her head. However, after reviewing the camera footage for the bus, they realized she hadn't tripped and sent the video to doctors.

In keeping with state protocols, staffers immediately began sanitizing the building. Custodians were pulled from regular duties to clean high traffic areas like door handles and drinking fountains. An extra crew was called in to clean the school overnight and the school bus was taken off of the route. A letter was also sent to parents listing the symptoms to watch for.

The virus can exist on a hard surface for four days, but a two week spring break begins on Monday, so the building should be bacteria-free by the time students return.
