The federal Bureau of Indiana Affairs will hold a public hearing next month on a draft impact statement that says a proposed $480 million tribal village and casino in South Bend would have no significant environmental effect aside from traffic.
SOUTH BEND - The federal Bureau of Indiana Affairs will hold a public hearing next month on a draft impact statement that says a proposed $480 million tribal village and casino in South Bend would have no significant environmental effect aside from traffic.
The meeting will be held April 14 at South Bend's Century Center. The South Bend Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1C5zyrq) comments will be used to prepare a final environmental impact statement.
The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi wants to build a tribal village and casino on 166 acres near the U.S. 20 bypass. The development would include 44 housing units, health services and various tribal government facilities plus a casino, hotel, meeting space and parking garage.
The draft study says it would create an estimated 2,000 permanent jobs and 1,400 construction jobs.
