Last updated on Monday, February 16, 2015

(MUNCIE) - Snow and high winds created white-out conditions Saturday that resulted in several multiple-vehicle accidents on roads and interstates north of Indianapolis.

Pendleton northbound traffic on I-69 was diverted onto SR-28 due to multiple crashes at the 248 milemarker just north of Muncie, according to Indiana State Police. Southbound traffic was diverted onto SR-26 in Grant County. Troopers did not report any injuries.

State police also reported a crash involving up to 20 vehicles on I-69 southbound near the DeKalb-Steuben county line. One injury was reported there as blowing snow caused whiteout conditions in the area.

Another multi-vehicle crash involving upwards of 20 vehicles was reported by State Police on westbound US-30 near West Lincolnway, west of Columbia City. Authorities received reports of injuries and people trapped inside their cars Injuries and entrapment have been reported.

Northbound I-69 and US-30 were reported to be back open by 4:15 Saturday afternoon. By 5:45 p.m., one southbound lane of I-69 was re-opened as well. Road crews hoped to have the second re-opened by 7, but State Police told said it was still down to one lane around milemarker 248 at 8:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Fulton County Sheriff Department in northern Indiana was investigating a multiple vehicle accident on State Road 25 east of Rochester.
