New Facebook Feature Allows You To Control What Happens To Your Account After You Die

Last updated on Friday, February 13, 2015

(UNDATED) - Facebook rolled out a new feature Thursday that allows users to control what happens to their accounts after they die.

Users can now designate a specific Facebook friend -- called a legacy contact -- to manage the account after they're gone.

Legacy contacts can be managed under a user's security setting.

The legacy contacts can pin posts, manage friend requests and even change profile and header pictures.

Facebook already has a system in place to "memorialize" accounts after users die, but now after the site verifies a user is dead, it will place "Remembering" above the users' profile name.
