Fire Destroys Frankie D's Flea Market In Muncie

Last updated on Monday, February 2, 2015

(MUNCIE) - An overnight fire destroyed Frankie D’s Flea Market shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday in Muncie.

Five units from Muncie Fire Department were originally dispatched to the 1900 block of South Hoyt Avenue and then additional units were called. Area volunteer departments were put on standby to cover the rest of the city.

Firefighters tried to fight the fire inside but had to back out and fight defensive on the outside.

Firefighters stayed on the scene most of the day and night putting out hot spots.

Hoyt Avenue remains closed because a brick wall is in danger of collapsing. A gas meter on that side of building also had to be shut off.

WTHI reported there were no injuries and that the owners of the flea market closed the business around 11 p.m. Saturday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
