(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Attorney General, Greg Zoeller tells residents of the Anthem cyber data breach how people they can protect their information from identity theft.
Zoeller's tips include taking responsibility for credit reports by freezing your credit, monitoring credit reports and filing taxes early.
Go to indianaconsumer.com, click on the link "Security Breach," and go through step-by-step process to freeze credit.
The process is easy and should take only a few minutes to accomplish. Freezing credit is permanent, but can be temporarily unfrozen by a simple phone call to credit companies.
Another security red flag to watch for are the phishing scams circulating, which include third-party emails asking for personal insurance information while posing as Anthem. If a consumer receives an email asking them to click on a link that will take them to an Anthem page to confirm personal information, Zoeller said that is a red flag for phishing.
