Victims Of Jasper Fire Tested Positive For Drugs

Last updated on Tuesday, January 20, 2015

(JASPER) - The Dubois County Coroner’s office says 20-year-old Linsey Parsley, her 3-year-old son Robert and 20-year-old Alex Snedeker tested positive for meth. The three died in a fire in Jasper on November 26, 2014.

Snedeker and Linsey also had THC, from marijuana, in their blood. Lindsey also tested positive for amphetamines and benzodiazepines.

The fire broke out in their upstairs apartment at 413 Third Avenue in Jasper. A passerby reported the fire around 4:45 am.

When firefighters arrived the upstairs apartment was engulfed in flames and because of extensive heat, firefighters were unable to enter the apartment.

Firefighters discovered the bodies after the fire was extinguished.

The Coroner's report says that all three individuals died from asphyxia due to smoke inhalation, super-heated air and carbon monoxide.

Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang says the State Fire Marshall determined that the fire began in the upstairs dryer vent and that the smoke detectors did not appear to be functional.

A couple in the downstairs apartment escaped the fire because of the passerby, who called firefighters and then began banging on doors to get people to safety.

The downstairs tenants had smoke detectors, but they had no batteries in them.
