(INDIANAPOLIS) - A SWAT situation in a home in the 3600 block of Creston Drive on the city’s west side ended Tuesday with a man and woman were removed from the home and taken into police custody for questioning.
The man and woman are possible homicide suspects in an early morning double shooting that killed one.
IMPD's SWAT team was called to the Creston Drive location near Holt and Rockville Road around 7 a.m. and police believed it to be related to Tuesday's early morning double shooting on Sheffield Avenue. The SWAT situation ended around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
One person died and another was wounded after a double shooting around 4 a.m. Tuesday at 114 N. Sheffield Avenue, near Washington Street and Belmont Avenue.
Police told WTHR that both victims were shot in the head. One victim was in critical condition when he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital. He later died. The other victim is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
IMPD says the victim who later died was found in a car in an alleyway. The wounded victim was found in a home in another part of the neighborhood.
"We believe that that individual is distinctly involved in this incident, ran to neighboring homes, made entry into one, was allowed in," said IMPD Spokesman Officer Chris Wilburn. "They called police and we arrived shortly after."
IMPD detectives have been interviewing witnesses this morning and gathering evidence at the crime scene. Right now, police do not have any information about any suspects or a motive for the shooting, but they do have a 'person of interest.'
"We're using department assets to determine who exactly was responsible," Wilburn said. "We know the players and we're using all of our information and resources to kind of narrow it down to a possible suspect."
