Last updated on Monday, January 26, 2015

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University Police say a young woman was walking home alone on Waldron Street after a leaving a party Saturday night when she says a man came up behind her, grabbed her and pulled her into the shadows and began sexually assaulting her.

Then, for some reason, the man stopped and ran away, heading north on Waldron.

Students across campus got an alert around 11:30 Saturday night about the assault. The text alert urged them to avoid the 400 block of Martin Jischke Drive. That's where police say the victim ran to and called for help.

According to investigators, the victim told them her attacker was a college aged man and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Investigators said they are working with the victim on a sketch of the suspect and hope to have one out soon.

Saturday's attack, comes a week after a student visiting Purdue from a school in Iowa, told police she was raped at the Acacia Fraternity house.

Police arrested 20-year-old James Rendon last week on preliminary charges of rape and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The suspect is now suspended from school and barred from Purdue's campus. His fraternity is also on suspension.
