Northwestern Indiana School Locked Down Following Threat

Last updated on Thursday, January 22, 2015

(HIGHLAND) - A northwestern Indiana school district has locked down its schools after a person calling from a Texas phone number threatened to shoot up a high school.

Police say they received a call shortly before noon from a person threatening to shoot students at Highland High School. The call came from a Dallas phone number, and officers in Indiana were coordinating with Dallas police to trace the call.

Highland police Cmdr. George Georgeff and School Town of Highland Superintendent Brian Smith say the lockdowns were precautionary. They tell The Times in Munster that police checked the school and did not find anything.

Police remained at the school Wednesday afternoon.

Smith says the school district sent alerts to parents to notify them of the situation.
