Lawmaker Seeks To Abolish Indiana's Death Penalty

Last updated on Thursday, January 8, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A state lawmaker wants to put an end to Indiana’s death penalty.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Democratic State Senator Lonnie Randolph is sponsoring a bill that would abolish the death penalty and take it off the table for people already on death row.

Under his proposal, convicts awaiting execution would instead face life in prison without parole.

There are currently about a dozen inmates sentenced to die in Indiana. Another six suspects are awaiting trial in death penalty cases.
