(INDIANAPOLIS) - Today, the Indiana Department of Revenue (and the IRS) opened the 2015 individual income tax filing season and began processing individual income tax returns.
Taxpayers are reminded that the department is available to help. Last year, taxpayers waited an average of only 2 minutes and 45 seconds to have their individual income tax questions answered from the department call center.
Taxpayers can contact the department in the following ways:
The customer call center is available from Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 317-232-2240. This phone line also supports Spanish speaking taxpayers.
The department has 12 district offices across the state where taxpayers can ask individual income tax questions, pay tax bills and submit paper tax returns. Locations of each of the district offices are at www.in.gov/dor/3390.htm. However, the department cannot prepare individual income tax returns.
Taxpayers also can submit general questions through the department's Facebook or Twitter account private message features. Note that taxpayers should never send personal information such as a Social Security number through social media.

Taxpayers can check the status of their tax refunds online 24/7 at https://secure.in.gov/apps/dor/tax/refund/.
Those who owe income tax can pay online easily or set up an online payment plan through the department's e-Pay system at www.in.gov/dor/4340.htm.
Nearly 2 million Indiana taxpayers will qualify to file their federal and state income taxes for free through the department's Indiana Freefile program.
Those with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $60,000 or less can visit www.freefile.dor.in.gov to see if they qualify for INfreefile.
