(FERDINAND) - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members The Lovin’ Spoonful will headline a full Saturday evening of entertainment during Ferdinand’s 175th Celebration in June.
Joining the historic band on Saturday, June 20, will be country rock legends Pure Prairie League, as well as southern rockers the Georgia Satellites. Central Indiana's the Easthills will kick off the night of entertainment.
Ferdinand's 175th Celebration will be a free event and open to all ages.
"It's not an easy task to pull together a mixture of entertainment options that can satisfy and excite a wide range of people," said Ken Sicard, Ferdinand's Town Council president as well as the 175th Chairman. "With the Lovin' Spoonful, Pure Prairie League, the Georgia Satellites, and the Easthills, we think there's, truly, something for everyone to enjoy."
The Lovin' Spoonful produced some of the most iconic songs of the 1960's folk rock revival. Recording eight top-selling albums, they ruled the radio with "Do You Believe in Magic?", "Daydream", "You Didn't Have to be so Nice", "Nashville Cats, Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind", "Rain on the Roof", as well as the ultimate anthem for a hot July evening "Summer in the City" all becoming top 10 hits. Founded in 1985, the Georgia Satellites shot into the upper reaches of the pop charts with their number 2 hit "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" and went, almost overnight, from being a struggling bar band to a national touring act opening for such top names as Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band. In addition to "Keep Your Hands to Yourself", the Georgia Satellites enjoyed top 100 success with their hits "Battleship Chains" and "Hippy Hippy Shake". The Easthills are a rock band based in Indiana. The band has received critical acclaim for their debut album "Death of a Salesman" and its follow up EP. They have performed at major festivals such as Bunbury in Cincinnati, WARMfest in Indianapolis and Wicker Park Fest in Chicago and opened for the likes of REO Speedwagon, Blues Traveler, Tesla, Cracker, Fastball, Here Come the Mummies and Heart. Also, Friday, June 19th's entertainment will feature two local bands, both of which have strong ties to Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School. Ready-R-Not, Forest Park's first rock band, will open the evening. The band, consisting of Buddy Hart, Ed Walston, Stu Englert, and Stu Wendholt, originally formed in 1980 and is celebrating its 35-year reunion in 2015. Local favorites, The High Road, featuring Michael Cummings, Buddy Hart, Duane Meyer, Ronnie Schultz, and Michael Eckert, will close Friday evening.
