(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis City-County Council passed a resolution Monday night honoring the life of Abdul-Rahman Kassig.
Kassig was killed last year after being abducted by ISIS terrorists in Syria.
His parents, Ed and Paula Kassig, thanked the people of Indianapolis for their continued support. Ed Kassig said his son's Hoosier education prepared him to "comprehend a wider world."
Kassig, a former Army ranger and former student at Butler University in Indianapolis, started his own relief organization in Lebanon called the Special Emergency Response and Assistance (SERA). The group's goal was to provide relief to Syrian refugees. He was abducted by ISIS in October 2013.
Ed Kassig said he now hopes the city will address the needs of its increasingly diverse population, including those who come to Indy from overseas.
