(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two bills are being considered at the statehouse that would require all phone calls in the car to be hands-free unless it’s an emergency.
State Sen. Pete Miller (R-Avon) says he experienced the dangers firsthand just days after getting a call from someone who wanted a new law.
"That exact same week I myself had a single-car accident where I was trying to dial a number on my phone and hit an overpass it was icy and went off the road," said Miller.
But he admits it won`t be easy to get the legislation passed.
He says it may not get a committee hearing this year, but he hopes it will raise awareness.
