(MILLERSBURG) - A northern Indiana town marshal has been sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to stealing panties from his son’s live-in girlfriend.
The Elkhart Truth reports former Millersburg Marshal David Keith Hathaway submitted the pleas Wednesday to two misdemeanor counts of criminal conversion. A judge ordered him to pay a $300 fine plus court costs.
An affidavit states the woman and Hathaway's son set up a hidden video camera that showed Hathaway entering their room and sniffing one panty and stealing another. She says she found another of her panties in Hathaway's safe.
Hathaway's attorney says Hathaway sought help for a compulsive behavior disorder before the charges were filed and completed a psychology evaluation.
Hathaway retired after he was charged and works part-time at the Millersburg police department.
